I hope you are all well. It was joyful to have Sylvie, Xochitl and Laurie join for the first time. It was meaningful to have people pop in when they can – Simone, CJ, Bonnie, Liz, Dana, Jupong, Christine, Debbie and grand baby…. And more. Our next practice is tomorrow/Saturday, 8 a.m. PT. Due to family and travel, we won’t have practice on Sunday. So the schedule will be: Saturday 7/27, Monday 7/29, Wednesday 7/31, Friday 8/2, Sat 8/3. (Or no Sunday)
We will continue to reflect and practice on guaranteeing and meeting basic needs in our lives and in society. This is feminist genuine security principle #2: guarantee and meet basic needs. We have been practicing moves from Wild Goose VII taught to me by my dad via the late Dr. Hu. As we move, we imagine practicing genuine security and what does it feel like if our basic needs were met. If this feels comfortable, where do you feel it in your body? How do you feel it? (Textures, temperatures, sounds, sensations etc). These are aspects of connecting to and feeling the qi or energy.
This week — different folks offered insights around moving as if our basic needs were met—-
* gentleness as an organizing principle and starting the day with gentleness was impactful
* if negotiating with material basic needs like housing, chronic pain and illness, or conflict in community or an awareness of basic needs not being met on a systemic level and wide scale suffering- moving might also meet a basic need of being with, accepting, embracing that it is hard and offering tenderness and soothing energy so that one might engage with the world so that everyone including ourselves have basic needs met
* an awareness of where energy is gathering and moving and gathering and being stuck —- whether the hands, the back of the neck — and realizing we might focus on front body but not the back body…
